Heritage Dyeing Workshop with The Mulberry Dyer

Brand new for 2026, we are delighted to welcome Debbie Bamford to Haddon Hall to lead a very special heritage dyeing workshop. Debbie, known professionally as The Mulberry Dyer, has more than 30 years of experience in historic dyeing techniques. She has conducted meticulous research into the dyes and dyeing methods used throughout the centuries, is a consultant to industry on the use of natural dyes, and her work can be found in the V&A Museum, Hampton Court Palace and the Globe Theatre, as well as historic houses throughout the UK and Europe.

At Haddon she is leading a ‘Back to the Future’ workshop in our Tudor Stables Studio. In the morning Debbie will teach you how to use madder and weld immersion dyes as they would have been used in the medieval period, and in the afternoon you will dye an item to take home using modern extracts of those same dyes.

This workshop is suitable for all abilities and for everyone over the age of 18. No previous experience is required. All tuition, materials and equipment will be provided.

Please note that admission to Haddon Hall is not included within the price of this event.
