The Gardens Team at Haddon is made up of Head Gardener, Lindsay Berry, and her dedicated team of three – Steve, Dave and Joe. Between them the team has over 35 years of experience in horticulture.
Head Gardener Lindsay specialises in Tudor and Medieval Gardens and is an active member of the Gardens Trust (formerly the Garden History Society), having trained with the RHS and gaining the MHort in 2016. She has previously taught for the RHS and has worked in some of the leading organic gardens in the UK. One of Lindsay’s favourite plants is Pellitory of the wall (not necessarily attractive but has probably been growing at Haddon since the 14th century!)
Steve works across the garden but has specific responsibility for some of the upper terraces and our seed raising. Outside of the garden Steve has a regular slot on radio. He is guaranteed to have a good tune in his head whilst weeding or trimming topiary.
Joe works in our many herbaceous borders and has a keen interest in environmentally-sensitive garden management. Joe is a connoisseur of secateurs and favours well-crafted and reliable Japanese steel.
Dave looks after the Cottage Garden and the Haddon lawns, as well as co-ordinating our larger projects such as resurfacing paths and turfing. Dave’s favourite lawn mower is the Honda Lawnflite Pro 553.
