Haddon Hall Announces 2012 Special Events Programme

Haddon Hall, one of Derbyshire’s most historic houses, is preparing to open its doors for the 2012 season and has announced an exciting programme of special events.

A very special exhibition takes place from July 28 to September 2 featuring a selection of costumes from the three major adaptations of Jane Eyre which have been filmed at Haddon Hall. They include the Franco Zefferelli film of 1995, the BBC series which starred Ruth Wilson and the latest film version released in 2011. Visitors will be able to see three versions of the costumes worn by Jane Eyre and Mr Rochester as well as a selection of other outfits and accessories.

The ever popular Tudor Group will be making several visits to Haddon Hall to give visitors a unique insight into life in Tudor times beginning with a Tudor cookery weekend on April 21 and 22 showing how the food of a Tudor household was prepared and served. A new event from the Tudor Group takes place on June 23 and 24 demonstrating the preparations for a Tudor wedding. An insight into the private lives of the Tudors is on offer on September 22 and 23 entitled In My Lord and Lady’s Chamber. Television personality and member of the Tudor Group, Ruth Goodman returns to Haddon on October 23 and 24 to hold her popular Tudor cookery workshops in Haddon’s wonderful medieval kitchens. The Group make their final appearance of the year on December 8 and 9 when they make preparations for Christmas, including seasonal food and festive merrymaking Tudor style.

Other special events include the opportunity to be shown around the house by experienced guides on selected dates throughout the season; full access to the garden including private terraces on each Friday from May 4 until September 28, weather permitting; a Last Night of the Proms on July 7 when choir and orchestra workshops take place during the day to enable people to fully participate in the evening courtyard concert and local choir Renaissance Voices will entertain visitors on July 15.

Children can enjoy an Easter Egg Hunt on April 7 and 8 and those brave enough can join in the Halloween experiences on the evenings of October 30 and 31.

Once again Haddon Hall will open its doors in the run up to Christmas allowing visitors to see the Hall beautifully decorated with natural materials sourced from the Estate.

Haddon Hall opens for the 2012 season on Saturday, Sunday and Monday from March 31 to the end of April. It is open for Easter from April 6 -10 and daily from May to September (closed Sunday June 3). During October the Hall is open Saturday, Sunday and Monday and is open for Christmas from December 5 – 19.

Prior to the start of the season Peak District Artisans will hold their Spring Showcase art and craft exhibition in the Hall on March 24 and 25 with a special preview evening on March 23. Tickets for the preview evening cost £15 and are available from Haddon Hall. The gardens will not be open at this time.
